If you get your electricity from Wisconsin Public Service, your increase is shrinking. The cut WPS's profit margin from 9.8% to 9.5% on Nov. 5, and WPS had asked for 9.9%. The move is expected to save ratepayers about $45.9 million over two years.

WPS now estimates much smaller electric increases than it requested

WPS requestMeasureEstimate after ruling
9.6%2027 increase0.3%
4.0%2028 increase2.9%
  • Typical 2027 bill: up $1 or less per month
  • Typical 2028 bill: up $5-$6 per month
  • Written order: expected in the next few weeks
  • Original ask: about $16 more on the average bill

WPS estimates its electric rates will rise 0.3% in 2027 and 2.9% in 2028, compared with the 9.6% and 4% it requested. Those figures could change. The says the ruling will save customers over $80 million, though it says the PSC should have gone further. Your rate will still go up, because the increases fund new energy infrastructure, buried power lines and tree trimming.

The PSC set WPS's profit margin below its request
